I come for the delicious meats, I stay for the free ice cream. This was my first time at this location and I was very impressed. Super clean, very professional staff and good good. Dickie's isn't like the best tasting, gem of a bbq experience but it's pretty cheap, accessible and good enough for me.

You know there's good service when you are greeted right when you step in. I made an online order and it was ready with fresh fries. Staff was super friendly. Great service and great food! I got a lot of food for an 8 dollar plate. It comes with buttered bread, pickles, a slice of onion, and the type of meat you've chosen. You get to pick 2 sides on top of that. I got the beans and fries which were delicious. I think the fries have a good seasoning on it that makes it even better. I would definitely recommend it to my guests at the hotel I work at. Great food! I'll be back!

Everyone here is super friendly! The meat is really tender and fresh. French fries made to order. The best part about this place is the pride of ownership and how all employees were eager to help.

I love this place. I get a Westerner with sausage and beef brisket and it is amazing. I really love the 32oz yellow cups because when you go shopping in the plaza that Dickey's is in, you can bring it in for half-off. The guys who work here are quick and very friendly. The restaurant is clean and has a TV with sports on it, and you can smell the wood chips burning its a real authentic bbq hole in the wall 5/5

My wife, son and I stopped in here after a day at the beach. Not sure if we were just starving or if the food was really that good but, boy, was it ever good?! I ordered the turkey plate with cole slaw and onion tanglers. The food was delicious. My son had the kids plate with turkey and macaroni n cheese. He wolfed it down, smiling the whole time. Finally, my wife ordered the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and coke slaw. Once again, delicious. Way to go, Dickies! You done good!

Delicious food, cozy environment, friendly staff and accessible prices. This place is fast becoming a staple. Must try their pulled pork sandwich and their Polish sausage.

Best barbeque in the South Bay, hands down. And they deliver to a pretty big area.

To me, one of the best deals in town. The daily specials can't be beat. (Monday's), Where else can you get a pulled pork sandwich, two sides and a drink for just under $10. Not to mention free soft serve ice cream. Great for families especially on Sundays, where kids 12 and under eat free. If you like Texas BBQ, this a great little spot to hit up. You can usually get in and out fairly quickly as well.

I have so far liked Dickey's BBQ. - Although it is a chain (and a lot of times chains skimp on certain things), you get good sized portions, the food is tasty, and surprisingly the prices are good. - There's a wide variety of meats to choose from: Brisket, BBQ Chicken Breast, Carved Turkey, Smoked Sausage, Pulled Pork, Ribs, and more. Plenty to satisfy everyone's taste in BBQ. - The sides are also diverse. Green Beans, Baked Beans, Fries, Corn Breads, Mac n Cheese, all the southern staples you've come to expect at a BBQ joint. - What sets this Dickey's location apart from other "local" BBQ places is the service. All the times I've stopped in for carry-out, the service has been great. Greeted by smiling faces, polite servers, folks that take a little time regardless of the lines to make sure you're getting what you crave. Orders are packaged carefully as to not spill in the car, or leak all over. They throw in enough sauces to make sure you're BBQ is tasty. I've just really been impressed by the overall experience in there, you just get taken care of, simply stated. - Prices are reasonable. You can get plates, sandwiches, take out BBQ by the pound, and any size side item you could imagine. Dickey's caters for large parties and events. Good spot for BBQ in the South Bay, since there are not a lot of places you can go for southern style comfort foods. You should try it..! ENJOY!

Service: Awesome, Food: Awesome! My beautiful five year old and I have been coming for Sunday night dinner all summer long and this place just never disappoints us. I have rotated through the various meats with the one meat plate combo and my boring 5 year old never fails to get the chicken nuggets. Whatever. The food is just as tasty as can be. I always get the same two sides - baked beans and potato casserole. Perfection! Though, some sour cream on the potatoes would be a huge plus. I could only be happier if they would replace their soda fountain with better, more interesting choices using cane sugar ( FYI Slapfish is a good example of this if the owner wants to check it out).

Had a BBQ fix on my way home today so I stopped at Dickie's for the first time despite my longtime dislike for the Whole Foods shopping center parking lot at Beryl and PCH in Redondo Beach. The joint itself is pretty small and narrow but the second you step inside, it smells like a BBQ place should, full of meaty smoke. Ordering is simple; the menu is up above the counter with plenty of pictures so simple-minded Dallas 'dickies' like Chip Ashby and Patrick Malcolm can handle it. Friendly bearded chap at the counter (who I'd just bet is a homebrewer like myself) spouted off his favorites: Pulled Pork, Spicy Cheddar Sausage...Mac 'n Cheese and Coleslaw for the sides. I took him up on the pulled pork and spicy cheddar sausage recommendations and threw in some baby back ribs for the trifecta 3-meat combo. For sides, I chose the recommended coleslaw and the waffle fries (because I was craving fries over mac). $15 out the door. Not too bad. Fella at the register was friendly too; overall service was fast and great. In and out in like 5 minutes. To the left of the register, there's an ice cream machine if you're in the mood and 3 hot vats of different BBQ sauces you can ladle up and throw in some to-go cups (and I did just that, all three of 'em...original, sweet, spicy). Being a lifelong 'phan' of Phillipe's BBQ out in the Crenshaw District and Dr. Hogly Woggly's Tyler Texas BBQ out in 'Ban Nuys', this isn't exactly close but it's very decent, quite tasty and certainly took care of my BBQ craving. The pork ribs probably had the best flavor (with and without the sauce), followed by the tasty sausage (a little heat, good texture). I felt the pulled pork needed the sauce but it was tender and delicious. The spicy BBQ sauce was definitely the best of the three sauces. Overall: Good food; good service...I hope this place sticks around for awhile, at least so those Dallas A-holes Chip and Patrick can try it.

My daughter ordered from here through Eat24. The chicken was tender and smokey. The salad had copious amount of cheese. The brisket was flavorful and juicy. It's a great option in South Bay. 8/15/15 Update I stopped by Dickey's Barbecue Pit with my daughter. We ordered three meats and two sides. We got a free pecan pie for showing my Yelp review. Brandon helped us at the register. There were two other guys who helped us with our order.

I work in the area and its my first time here. The staff is great and helpful. The sides were fresh and delicious. The Wednesday lunch special was on point. The pulled pork was flavorful and smokey and the polish sausage was savory. The sauce pulls it all together with the perfect amount of sweetness. Not many places offer excellent quality products and customer service. I WILL BE BACK SOON!

BBQ me! Craving brisket and was able also get tender juicy pork ribs. Fried sides made to order made to order.. Kids meal was $6 and the meals was Okra, waffle fries, Mac and cheese and potato salad are very tasty. A plus, souvenir cups :) Will be back,

I love Dickies. I had only been to their Chino location before I went (to Redondo) on Wednesday. My boyfriend and I both ordered the 2 item plate. He got brisket, sausage, beans and caesar salad. I got the brisket, ribs, fries and coleslaw. Ribs--fall off the bone, delicious Brisket (chopped)---bites of heaven. So tender and flavorful. Sausage---meh, I wasn't a huge fan, but my boyfriend liked it. Coleslaw---similar to KFC, but better. REALLY, REALLY good. Beans---Nothing amazing, but good Caesar salad & fries---disapointing, definitely wouldn't order again. We got there right when they opened at 11am and were surprised to see that the trash can was overflowing and chairs were dirty.... The ice cream cones were also beyond stale....like no one had wrapped them up overnight :( Super bummed. Overall....the meat is delicious. I'd eat the brisket and ribs every day if I could!! :) Just wish there was a location closer to Huntington Beach!!!

Was craving ribs and decided to try this place out based on the reviews and unfortunately left disappointed. Ordered the rib plate (6 ribs) with mac & cheese and waffle fries for $15. The ribs were too salty (and I like salty foods) only ate 3 of them and nothing special about the mac & cheese and fries. Ordered a to go plate for my hubby. Brisket & chicken with double side of caesar salad. He was disappointed in their selection of healthy sides. When I brought this up with the gentleman behind the counter his response was, "This is real Texas cook'n. Green beans with bacon is about the healthiest you'll get." I can appreciate Texas BBQ but you do realize where you're located right?? It wouldn't hurt your profits by adding a few healthier options on the menu. Hubby thought it was odd they chopped up his brisket. He thought the meal was just meh. Had my leftover ribs and agreed that it over salted. They have a soft serve machine and offer free self serve ice cream, but I'll be honest, its not any kind of soft serve consistency I've ever seen. I almost asked them what the ingredients were but after the comment about what Texans consider healthy, I thought I'd just keep my mouth shut.

Came here for the first time recently and was given excellent customer service behind the counter. The pulled pork sandwich was like a pillow of meat it was so tender, and the bun was super soft. Their original and spicy BBQ sauce is also great and served warm. Will definitely come back to try other items.

I was in the area and saw a crowd milling about the place so I decided to try it. I had the small combo with sliced beef brisket, baked beans and green beans. It was served up quickly, pleasantly and with a smile. Customer service is definitely the focus here. Sadly I can't say that Ioved the food. Although it was very fresh, I found it to be sort of bland. Given that the service and vibe are so pleasant, I may give them another shot.

This place is bomb- the sandwich bread is really fresh and soft, first time ever trying a bread like that. Sandwich and salsa are good and most of all the MACARONI IS and I don't mean spicy but AMAZING.

Sorry, I can't in good faith give this place a good review because the "BBQ" came from a bag! There's nothing authentic about this BBQ place and it's difficult to refer to it as "BBQ" after eating there. My boyfriend and I decided to try it after reading the reviews and hoped maybe there's a chance we'd finally get some semi-decent BBQ but that was not the case. Everything was pre-packaged, and it definitely tasted like it. While we were there, one of the guys behind the counter dropped a sealed bag of mac & cheese on the floor, picked it up and tossed it in the boiling water to warm it up. Food handling / sanitation wasn't a concern at all. Don't waste your money, it wasn't worth it.

My go-to spot for delicious beef brisket. Some of the best waffle fries in the business. All the sides are tasty.

Oh me oh my! It's Labor Day weekend and no one wanted to (or could) cook (for that matter). My sister recommended Dickie's BBQ. I had never heard of it but asked, "Why not?" When I say it was DEE LISH US, Please believe me! The service was impeccable and the food was "slap ya mama" good (but please don't slap her if your mom is like my mom). We will most definitely be returning. We had the beef and cheese baker, which is a loaded baked potato with (need no teeth to eat this beef) brisket, cheese, fried onions, and green onions. It was very filling! I would recommend this place ALL DAY LONG! 2 up for Dickie's Barbecue Pit!

  • Bernie V.

This place became my go-to barbecue pit for the mean time! The service has been excellent each time I went... +1 star. They offer local delivery or Eat24 for line-cutting quick pickup... +1 star. BBQ @ an affordable price... +1 star. Knee slappin' flavorful food w/ the boss of sauce... +1 star. Free ice cream? Whaaa? +1 star. 5/5! Keep up the good work at this location! I highly recommend sliced BBQ brisket, waffle iron fries (you practically get a tray full when you order the Picnic Pack), potato casserole, mac n' cheese. I'm personally not a fan of the dinner rolls but it isn't significant enough to knock a star off considering the free ice cream. Whaaaa?

I'm not a BBQ expert, even though I'm from Kansas City and we definitely pride ourselves on having world famous BBQ. I like what I like and I liked Dickey's. I haven't found very many BBQ spots here in LA that I've enjoyed so I was skeptical yet hopeful for Dickey's. I think this is a new location, next to Whole Foods in Redondo Beach. I had a pulled pork sandwich with a side of cole slaw and BBQ beans and I must say it was the best pulled pork sandwich I've had in quite some time. I will be back!

The staff is the best. They're always smiling and so friendly. I recommend this place all the time to tourists since i work across the parking lot from them. I love the beef brisket and pulled pork. My favorite bbq place in the south bay forsure.

Happy to say these guys customer service remains top notch. Manager corrected past issue, and as usual our meal was amazing. We always hit this place up when looking to get a taste of home, BBQ Texas style! I usually go for the beef and cheese baker, a huge baked potato covered in brisket, sour cream, chives, cheese, BBQ sauce and topped with deep fried onion tanglers. This is a potato that is easly two meals, there generous with the toppings. Keep up the great work!

Okay.... Came here to get some BBQ for a Sharknado 3 "oh hell no" party (don't judge me). The brisket was really, really good. The ribs were tender, but were extremely salty. Waffle fries were good as were the rolls. This is where the 2 stars get justified. While standing there watching my food get prepared, I observed one of the food prep guys take the biggest ziploc bag i have ever seen of mac n cheese and squirt it in the warmer. I commented that i was shocked it wasn't homemade - he advised that the restaurant is a chain and everything is prepared somewhere else (except for the meat). But the coup de grace was mid-squirt, some of the fluorescent orange substance fell onto the guy's hand, which he so graciously licked off. Oh barf! Germaphobes be aware!

First timers here! From the moment we walked in, we knew it was going to be great. The smell of BBQ permeated the air. We've been told by friends that their beef brisket was on point, so we knew that was definitely going to be one of our meals. Their "Deal of the Day" today is a Big BBQ Pulled Pork with two sides and a drink for $8.99. Those items separately are almost $13. I ordered that with the green beans with bacon and their waffle fries, along with sweet tea. Super delicious meal! My boyfriend ordered their Big BBQ Beef Brisket. Super flavorful! Can't wait o come back! Customer service was great! The guys were very helpful and offered tips on the most popular items! Topping it off at the end with their free adorable ice cream cone!

I come sometimes before work in Hermosa. Friendly staff and good food. I usually get the deal of the day which was good today and also the big yellow cups are great to use at home! My roommates love them too haha. I am from Dallas so I also love coming to get some good food from Texas.

Very impressed with quality of food and customer service with online order for delivery. Placed at 6:12 pm on a Thursday night, the $130 order arrived at 6:57 pm, a distance of 2.1 miles on PCH in rush hour traffic. First time I ever tried their food and with delivery no less. Their online app works well, very flexible, and when they had a small issue, they were on the phone to me, very polite and helpful. Really well done on all counts and everyone loved their food. We ordered small quantities of polish sausage, brisket, turkey (really tender), and 2 racks of St. Louis style ribs. Excellent, very high marks on food quality and rush hour delivery. They were cooking ham so we traded turkey for that because I didn't want the order delayed 10 minutes. Mac & Cheese was a hit, cole slaw, dill potato salad, baked potato casserole as well. Really great to have quality BBQ close by and will definitely go back.

Delicious BBQ! I love their baked potato casserole too! :) I got the Monday special which is a pulled pork sandwich with baked potato casserole and Mac and cheese. Great price for a great meal. The meat was so tender and the sweet sauce is to die for. Will definitely be back for more.

We love coming here, especially for kids eat free Sundays. Love their smoked turkey sandwich and BBQ sauces - and the twice-baked mashed potato side is amazing!!! The reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that they are expensive- $10 for a plate with sides without a drink. Their ice cream (free) was yellow colored the past few times we went and looked like something was wrong with it. Looks like they may have fixed that problem. And the place is small- you will bump into people all over the place if it's busy. I wish it was priced a little lower but overall, great BBQ!

3.75-4 Came here with my boyfriend to try it out after seeing a blog post about it! Atmosphere/Environment Small restaurant, it's not the cleanest place. There was still some food and napkins on the floor. But not a big deal. Other than that, they had vintage looking signs everywhere with a warm atmosphere. Food I got the two plate meal and my boyfriend got the Westerner sandwich. I got the brisket and spicy cheddar sausage with waffle fries and fried okra on the side. The brisket was good and it wasn't drenched in bbq sauce either, which is a good thing for me. The sausage was good! Although a tad too spicy for me, it had a good taste to it. Both the waffle fries and fried okra were good. The only thing is, since it's all meat, it's easier to get tired of it. So it might be good to get a side that's more of a dish. They also offer free vanilla ice cream on a cone:) And on top of that, a yelp review earns you a free apple pie so hey, guess what I'm going to do with this! Service Good, no complaints. The guys were friendly.

This restaurant has improved greatly thanks to the new owner. The food is impeccable, the employees are attentive and make you feel welcome. The store is also spotless, the kitchen seems to be cleaned every night. You can't go wrong with this amazing establishment! This is one place I will keep coming back to!! The manager, Joey, is one of the most helpful persons I have ever met. He treats each customer great and makes them feel like part of the dickeys family. Keep it up dickeys!! You guys are a great place to eat at! And that free ice cream, gotta love it!!

First visit today. Saw one of their commercials on TV and wondered if there were any in my area. Turns out there was one close and there's nothing better than good BBQ. It was mid afternoon and I was the only one in the place. One of the guys pointed out the daily specials (seemed like good prices), but in my opinion, good BBQ is defined by their brisket. I decided on the one meat plate with brisket, which came with two sides. The first person I talked to recommended the barbeque beans and the baked potato casserole. About his time another guy comes out from the back and says he's the general manager and ask how I want my brisket. He pulls out a whole brisket and I ask for the burnt ends, so he slices me some from the point and chops it up. At the check out I added a drink and headed to a table to eat after filling my cup from the sweet tea dispenser and gathering cups of two kinds of sauce. The brisket was really good, juicy with the crispy pieces of bark. Both sides were good with the only disappointment being the sweet tea, which seemed watery and lacked a real tea taste. I'll e back next time I have a yen for BBQ (at least monthly).

Food is good. Don't get the turkey! Not good for you ;) but hey they deliver! Advice: don't get the turkey. It doesn't take like real turkey. All other meats and sides were yummy.

  • Christopher T.

I've always been a fan of BBQ places such as Ribs USA but this experience completely blew them out of the water. I highly recommend the sausage and brisket western sandwich, lots of flavor and not at all dry. Quick, friendly service and enough sides to need a to-go box with the meals.

    (5)
  • James M.

wow the food is really good, I got 2 meats, 3 sides and everything tasted excellent, even the roll was great (and I don't usually eat rolls). I had gone to Joeys the week before and that pales in comparison. The reviewer below who complained about service because they called in advance - its a take out place, with a line like Subway, enter one side, shift down as they prepare and then pay. Its hardly the type of place you call in advance. The service was fine and they were quick.

For this area, Dickie's is the best for BBQ. All meats are juicy and the sides are good. A little on the pricey side though.

    (4)
  • Richard J.

Enjoyed a plate of BBQ Ribs, moist and tasty with the original Dickie's BBQ sauce. I had two sides, Jalapeno Beans and Fried Okra. Very tasty. Capped it off with a soft serve ice cream cone, a treat on the house! It's a neat small location in the corner of a shopping center, so you have to look for it. There is a large flat screen tv in the dining area where I watched some baseball. Had to drive around a bit to park, as the big draw at this shopping center is Whole Foods Market and they draw a lot of shoppers.

    (4)
  • Patrick M.

The Polish Sausage was bland & they didn't have any potato salad when I went in (After 6pm). Oh, it was a bit pricey too. Finally, if you must eat here, leave your credit/check card at home and bring cash.

    (2)
  • Aditi C.

Slooooooooooooooow, awful service. Not worth the wait. They mashed up the brisket into a soggy mess, with no sauce. The fries were not fully cooked. The ribs were decent, but by no means were they "falling off the bone" as they claim. Skip it!

My gf and I went out for a Friday night dinner and decided to try Dickey's for the first time. 5 Stars, and my compliments to the guy and girl who were working the counter at around 8:00pm on Friday 5-19-12 for their perfect service!! They were very friendly, offered samples, and she explained their menu and specials, making it a great first-time visit. We had the pulled pork special, and different sides, all good. Love the self-serve drink bar with big yellow plastic cups, and free soft-serve ice cream too (but didn't have any). Best part is it's very close to where we live. Keep up this service and we'll be regulars here. 7-27-12 Been back several times now and as far as service goes, still courteous but has never been as good and friendly as that first time. Also, portions of some of the sides like the onion tanglers were like a kids serving, and the potatoes were dry last time. Backing off from 5 to 4 stars.

  • H K.

The best BBQ in the south bay! My husband and I get their ribs and brisket. To die for! People who don't like it, don't know what is good BBQ!

    (5)
  • Lacey S.

Obviously we're dealing with several non-texans here on yelp. Where else can you find delicious fried okra in this area? This is obviously and clearly advertised as a Texas style BBQ joint and they deliver what they advertise. It disgusts me to read reviews that conjure up the spirits of yapping lap dogs. If you haven't experienced southern comfort food then utilize the old saying "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

  • Steve D.

Pulled pork and ribs were fabulous. Beans and creamy cole slaw were very tasty, too. The smoky stench, though, was a drag. Joint suddenly filled with BBQ smoke mid-meal making our eyes burn, while other patrons headed for the door. Clothes had to go through the washer THREE times. Best to get it to go and avoid the stench.

I have been here once, and loved it. I got the westerner sandwich with brisket and spicy cheddar sausage, and sides of beans and potato casserole. Wow, it was so good and quickly made! I am definitely going back. Food quality was excellent, staff friendliness was excellent, and sauces were good. I would say equal to Famous Daves, Lucille's and better than Tony Roma's but at half the time and cheaper price.

I Absolutely Love The SMOKEHOUSE SALAD! It Is So Delicious! I Love The Baked Potato Casserole and The Mac N Cheese! Some Of The Employees Are Very Nice! The Manager Terri Came To Our Table and Introduced Her Self and Was Very Nice! Good Experience Overall!

I had walked by dozens of times and ignored Dickeys, then I had 2 people recommend it within 24 hours and decided to give them a try. I love good BBQ and haven't been able to find anything decent since Chicago Ribs left RB. I tried Pinks in Hb and was very disappointed due to a dry ass brisket and less than overwhelming sides for the price (more on the cost of bbq take-out in moment). On to Dickey's food- I got the 2-meat plate (~$13) w/ brisket which the gentlemen suggested and it was juicy, tender, and had great smoked flavor. The ham was good but not quite as memorable as the brisket. Sides- mac n' cheese was great and so were the onion tanglers (basically seasoned fried onion). I only tried the hot n spicy bbq sauce and it definitely caught up to me about half way through my generous portions of food, nothing a bite of mac n cheese couldn't tame though. At home I mix 'Sambal chili sauce' w/ my bbq sauce to spice it up and this tasted similar. My meal also came w/ a biscuit, which was fresh from the oven- the nice lady had given me one, but said she'd have fresh ones in just a few minutes and brought one out for me- awesome service. Final note on the food is they have FREE soft-serve ice cream and giant pickles! Now in regards to those who complain about the price- it's a bbq joint, they're ALWAYS more expensive than going to some teriyaki chicken or burger spot. My theory as to WHY is because bbq places slow cook, it's not like a place that grills up frozen meat in 3 minutes and has it ready for u- if they don't sell their whole brisket in 1-2 days tops it's shit. In a nutshell- give Dickey's a try, they impressed me on my first visit.

Hey Ya'll its Texas! I was waiting for this place to open! I always go to Dickey's when I am home in Dallas. Euless to be exact. I talked with the owner and she was very nice. They are still learning, as it just opened. All they need to complete the Texas I miss, is some Blue Bell ice cream and Big Red. Oh maybe some thick sliced Wonder bread. Several trucks parked in front with gun racks. Yep, that would about do it. Feels like home :)

I'm offended people are comparing the sandwiches here to the McRib. I'll preface that with the fact that I love the McRib. Went to this place on a special "$1" brisket sandwich day. The place was a mess. Food was everywhere. Servers looked like they sat in a sauna before they came out. The volunteers at the shelter take more care in preparing food. The cashier laughed when I pulled out my credit card to pay. I returned the laugh with a silent glare. Hell no, why can't we have good barbeque in the area? Pinkie's is inconsistent, the other place that Luke Walton owns is iffy.. Lucille's gives you portions for a whale!!!

We were hungry and running late. We did not want to shop and cook at home but wanted to eat something a cut above the easy fast-food out there. I remembered I'd seen a sign for Dickey's and in the back of my mind I had a good impression. I later remembered (with help from our server) that the outfit had once resided in Torrance. I can't understand why that unit closed. That shows my age, but so what? I've had time to eat lots of barbecue! I'll cut to the chase; the food is delicious! We had pulled pork dinner plates with two sides each. We don't live far from the restaurant so we ordered to go. The pork was tender and nicely smoked, but not over-the-top smoked. And they give you a very generous amount. We saved enough each for a nice lunch. Alongside, the beans and salads were fresh and tasty. Not to be missed is the soft warm bun that was included. I would go five stars but need to be fair. The floor plan makes you walk to the back and then hit the line to order. It is a bit confusing and the staff was still geting in sync, but very friendly. I also note they give you large drink cups and that they offer beer and wine for consumption on-site. The shopping center has plenty of parking and that is a plus. I shall definitely return and risk the calorie exposure. I can't wait to try the ribs.

This was the worst so called "BBQ" I have ever eaten. In fact, I'll go so far as to call it a fraud. I take my Q seriously; I have two pits at home and my job takes me across the expanse of Los Angeles, where I have eaten at every shack I have come across for fifteen years. I KNOW MY BBQ! My wife and I had two sandwiches and two sides. The meat portions were very slight for the price, dry, unseasoned, unsauced with no smoke flavor (absent the tell tale smoke ring). The sides (beans and potato salad) came right out of a #10 can. Along the walk home with our take out order two different people who saw the Dickey's bag asked us about our experience. When we showed them the size of the sandwhich for $7.50 they just laughed. This was before we even got home to taste the products. If Yelp had a zero star rating this joint would be the poster boy! Everyone who gave this place a favorable review doesn't know squat, is an investor, or a member of the Dickey family.

Dry meat and way over priced. I tried them out because I live across the street and had a craving for some good eats. I was shocked first when my sandwich cost me 10 bucks and then another two dollars for really small portion of coleslaw that was expired to say the least. My friends have tried as well and after we traded our stories, it was conclusive that this place is never ever again story,

Got a two meat plate, went brisket and pulled pork. Flavors of the meat were good, but needed more BBQ sauce. I enjoyed the Mac n cheese but disliked the bacon green beans maybe next time I'll try the jalapeño beans. Service was quick and employees were helpful. Looked like they enjoyed their job or maybe they were just happy to be employed. I'm curious to try the ribs, maybe next time. Overall good place an will go back.

As others have noted, way over priced for what you get. Two sides, the server said would be $4 vs $2.95 for one. So i went with two of the onion things. Got about 4, ok maybe more though the two orders was about the size of single order should be. I went with a full rack as I was heading over to friends to watch football, I got in behind one person at 1:15, I left at 1:40! The server took 10 minutes for the order in front of me to cut the ribs. He's cutting mine and then starts chatting with the other staff person. I said "ummm, excuse me!". Even rushed it still looked like slow motion. Ribs were so-so, definitely not worth the experience. And the BBQ sauce container they give you had about a teaspoons worth in a large container. Very doubtful I would ever go back or recommend this place. Oh and wrapping them in plastic wrap, that is just bad.

we usually eat here Sunday's with our kids, the only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is it is a bit pricey, but right now the kids eat free and the free pickles & ice cream are big hits. One of the girls there( sorry i forgot her name) was so nice and knowledgeable and actually told my daughter to make a root beer float...my husband loves the pulled pork sandwich and the sides i've had so far are pretty good! The BBQ sauce options are great!

If you love BBQ, check it out. Only wish it was buffet style like most locations in Texas. Free ice cream is always good

Food was good but overpriced for the portion size. The sandwich making was very inefficient. If this place was crowded and you were in a hurry, you would not want to eat here.

Note to Management: I'm no expert, but if I had a new restaurant opening, I would make sure I was adequately staffed to handle all of the curious customers who want to try your new restaurant. Get them great food in a timely manner and they will be customers for life! Unfortunately, I walked in to Dickey's at exactly 6p.m. on a Wednesday night. This is what's know in the "biz" as "dinner hour", a time when you should be heaviest staffed. Instead of a warm and welcoming staff, there were only two staff members present. One struggling with cash handling and cooking, the other filling part of the orders. There was no teamwork. They were both confused about what they should be doing. There was no manager present to help. One of the workers was chewing gum while slicing meat and filling orders. This is not only a turn-off, but a Health Dept. violation. He was also complaining about his dull knife. I ordered the brisket (both kinds) and I guess his dull knife could not trim the huge chunks of fat from the meat of the first type of brisket. The other type of brisket was crazy dry. I forget what they call the two types, but they SHOULD be called the greasy, oily, full-of-fat-chunks brisket and the extremely dry brisket (luckily, their BBQ sauce is pretty tasty. I mixed their regular BBQ sauce with a dash of the "hot and spicy" sauce - pretty good. Maybe buy a bottle and make your own at home!) Meanwhile, the second employee was handling money and handling food without washing her hands in between. This is also a Health Dept. issue. I don't necessarily blame them. They were crazy busy. I blame management for not training them and not getting them any help. Unemployment is through the roof. It shouldn't be hard hiring a couple more people to help during the dinner rush. They were just throwing food in boxes and slinging it at the customers. Bad service. Bad food. Bad news. . .

I tend to give places the benefit of the doubt if they're newly opened, but this was terrible. Pulled pork was bland and flavorless, and they were out of half their sides at 7:30. We get the food home and the "plate" is just a plane pile of meat in a styrofoam. Apparently you're supposed to know to add your own sauce. Won't be going back unless I hear from a lot of friends that they've made some improvements.

  • Karen M.

Upon arrival, floor was messy, sauce was splattered on the sauce hot pots, napkins scattered, just looked dirty. It wasnt busy so Im not sure why they dont have someone making sure the front looked presentable. So I decided to do take out. The side dishes are way over priced and they were not even that tasty. On the plus side, the short ribs were A+, the meat was falling off the bone.

We were so excited to try it out since we'd been to a Dickey's Barbecue in Texas and loved it. I expected some confusion since they've only been open a couple of days, but.... wow.... just .... wow. First we encountered the grumpy angry woman, then we were confronted with a bunch of meat wrapped in icky plastic wrap, then by a very nice lady who just couldn't seem to complete the sale in anything close to a reasonable amount of time. My ribs were good. I couldn't eat my fries, the roll, or the ice cream. I had picked up the manager's card at the register planning on sending a kind email warning of the poor service & food, but later heard the nice/slow lady call the manager's name and gumpy angry woman responded.

My sandwhich was dry and blah!!!! Waaaaay to overpriced and the 2 ladies working the front were bickering at each other. Never again will i pay 17.95 for a dry sandwhich, 2 sides and a drink. Oh wait...they gave me a "free" drink because it took so long to make. Never again.

I went here last Sunday with a buddy of mine. I got the Rib plate. The ribs were awesome and I think I liked the mashed up baked potato even more. The ribs did fall off the bone but I gotta say I loved that mashed potato baked potato side. My buddy had the 2 meat plate and I didn't try it but he said he really liked it. I did not enjoy a free pickle but I liked that they give free Ice Cream. I left stuffed and happy and will back next time with the wife.

I lucked into going on Tuesday, which was buy one, get one free pulled pork sandwich day. The guy making the sandwiches asked me what type of meat I wanted. I said do I get a choice with the buy one pork sandwich, get one free deal? He had to think about it and said no. Ok then. It seemed to take a while to put 2 sandwiches together. I wasn't really paying too much attention to what he was doing. I decided to try some sides, got baked beans, coleslaw and the mashed potatoes. He filled the cup about 3/4, and I'm probably being generous. The inside of the lids on the beans and coleslaw didn't even get dirty, so that tells you how empty the cups were. They should switch to 6oz cups so it doesn't look empty. The lady at the register pointed out the pickles, ice cream to me, and said there's extra sauce if I care for any. I did get some sauce, assuming that the sandwiches already had plenty. When I got home, the meat didn't have any sauce. I would have gotten a couple of cups if I knew this! And the meat was dry in more ways than one. I really miss the Torrance store! It closed many years ago, but they had a buffet that was great, and a really good deal. I was excited to hear about this opening, but now sad that it's nothing like the Dickey's I'm used to. I will have to make do with eating at the one in DFW when I have some spare time at the airport when waiting for a flight. $7.50 was a lot for just a sandwich on a McDonald hamburger sized bun.

I'm glad that Dickeys has moved to Redondo Beach. I've traveled the country and enjoyed Dickeys everywhere. The place is new, the staff friendly, the music is good, and it's an open and comfortable place to eat. If you like TX style BBQ, this is the place. Styles of BBQ such as spicy cheese sausage may be alien to CA BBQ fans if the only thing they're used to is Tri-Tip or basic BBQ ribs. Since the place is pretty new, I think their smokers and equipment aren't quite broken-in yet. My lunch was good but not as stellar as I'd expect. I'm hoping they crank-up the smoke. I like my TX style BBQ with a very rich smoky flavor. There wasn't a smoke ring on the sausage and the chopped TX BBQ was a little under smoked but this can be fixed as they dial-in their smoking times / methods. I'm probably not your traditional BBQ reviewer as I smoke my own meat and am a big fan of Carolina BBQ (mustard based). I like TX BBQ styles better than Kansas City BBQ tomato based styles though and I'm confident with more time and practice this Dickey's restaurant will be at 100%. I will definitely go back and check their progress! Don't forget the Yellow Cup!

I went to Dickey's for the first time in Las Vegas back in September. I thought it was very reasonable and I enjoyed the food and service. I live in the South Bay so I was happy to learn that Dickey's would be opening in Redondo Beach. Unfortunately, my experience at this location was nothing like the one in Las Vegas. For starters, the service was very slow. They only had two people running the entire place at dinner time so it took close to a half hour just to get take-out. The people themselves were reasonably friendly but seemed a little frazzled and overworked. The self-serve BBQ sauce containers were all completely empty. They gave me two pre-packed containers of sauce which I found out were each less than half full when I got home. They were out of bread which is supposed to be included with the meals. There were dirty plates sitting on some of the tables and right on the counter next to the cash register. The place itself is rather dark and cold (literally, cold. They had the a/c running on a chilly night.) All in all, a big disappointment. The only redeeming factor is that the food is pretty good. They need to shape up or they'll be out of business soon.

Great food. Great service. Great price. If you want great BBQ without any waiting time, this is the place. I ordered the chicken and brisket, and they both were cooked wonderfully. The sides are more than filling. If you're in the area, stop by.

Let's start this off by saying the only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they always seem to run out of something on the menu. I've tried the ribs, bbq chicken, sausage, and pulled pork. Have yet to try the brisket, but everything has been awesome! The guys at this location have amazing customer service!!! Can't wait to go back!

The best bbq I've had in a very long time! The meats cooked and seasoned to perfection, the sides complimented the meal well, the sweet tea was just right, the rolls were soft, yeasty, buttery and i could've eaten all six they gave us with the family meal and the Ceasar salad was right on.

Gave Dickey's one more try after a few people told us it had a new owner and turned around. WOW - Really impressed today! I had visited this place twice in the past as I was craving BBQ and love Dickey's!(spent 16 yrs in TX). First time, just after the business opened, they were out of brisket and all chicken, tried again cause they were local. Second time we waited 20 mins to be served (NOBODY ELSE IN THE RESTAURANT) so we walked out. Today Dickey's, its new owner Alex, and their staff, redeemed themselves 10 fold. We were welcomed when we entered the store which was not only clean but busy! The few empty tables were clean and ready for occupancy. I crossed my fingers and ordered the 2 item plate with both brisket and pulled pork. I chose the green beans and mashed potato casserole for my sides. The meal also included a roll which was nice and fresh. The meat was hot, plentiful and flavorful. Just the right amount of smoke flavor. The sides were served hot and tasted great. There were 3 in my party so I had the opportunity to try the turkey sandwich, onion strings, coleslaw, mac and cheese and ribs as well. Not one bad item in the entire order! Really great to finally have a local bbq place I can count on to satisfy my cravings and know it will be great!

The food is awesome, consistently delicious barbecue. They have all you can eat soft serve ice cream included with your meal. The Mac and Cheese is the best my kids have ever tasted. They have really good BBQ sauce to serve up on the side. The atmosphere is casual with Western decorations and could be a bit cleaner, but the prices are very reasonable and kids eat free every Sunday! You get free apple pie for writing a Yelp review which is why I'm writing this right now.

Writing this as I enjoy the ice cream. Brought in a newby. He's a truck driver and has passed many locations. This was his first time and won't be the last. Enjoyed the brisket with the spicy sauce (shared a pound of it). Sharing it with the mac and cheese was the bomb. Mr truck driver is now on his third ice cream cone (they are free) and eyeballing a cup for more.

Was feeling in the mood for comfort food and I knew good bbq was lacking in the South Bay, but was glad to see that so many people have enjoyed Dickeys on yelp so was excited to try. Walked in to a take away, hole in the wall-ish spot and really liked the vibe. I was greeted immediately and noticed that the guys behind the Line were all friendly, which makes it easy to spend your money here. I didn't want to commit to a big plate of ribs so decided on 1 brisket and 1 pulled pork sandwich. To be honest, I couldn't tell the difference between the two when I got them, but they were both good. Tender chopped up meat on a soft roll. We got 4 sides between us two: baked beans. Baked potato casserole, mac n cheese, and green beans. Baked beans were great and so were the casserole. The mac n cheese does not taste like homemade, but more like something you make out of s box. It was edible and some may like that velveeta taste. The green beans were not bad but not anything I'd like to order again. But what can you expect for the price point. We still ate it all. The sauces were really good. Overall, this is a solid take out spot and all that for $20! Will definitely return and love to get some ribs and try their dessert and free soft serve!

Fabulous! I had the special plate of the day, pulled pork plate with a bread roll and two sides for $8.99 - plus, it comes with a drink! My friends had the brisket sand which which they loved. Everything is very lean and tender, perfectly smoked. Lots of sides to choose from. Choice of 3 BBQ sauces, free ice cream cone for dessert...what's not to like! Tip: take your drink cup and add the soft serve ice cream, then top with root beer for a great float. All that and the guys who work there are so friendly and helpful - they really made our day :)

Dickey's Barbecue Pit is a small fast-food BBQ restaurant in the very back corner of the Whole Foods/Rite-Aid shopping center on the west side of Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach (next to Fresh Brothers Pizza). There is a six-top and four four-tops inside as well as a couple of two tops outside with vinyl checkered tablecloths and wooden chairs. You order at a counter where the food is dished, and there is a soda fountain for your beverages. The staff is VERY friendly. Really a 5 star team here. The entrees are HUGE, so the hubs and I split one and we ordered a kid's meal for our daughter (kids eat free on Sundays!). We split the Rib Plate ($13.99). We received five pork ribs, two sides (fried okra and green beans), and a dinner roll. There is a TON of food here. The green beans were meh. They tasted canned, so they were pretty soft and dark green, and had bits of bacon. They were edible, but not very fresh. The fried okra was awesome AND really generous - probably 2 cups in the serving (five stars). I love those little bite size morsels of deep fried veggies. Hubs loved the bread - little semi-crusty French rolls (he ate the one on our plate and the kids plate) with buttery flavor. The ribs were good - 3.5 stars. The meat was decent quality and they had decent bark. They weren't fall off the bone tender, but tender enough. For fast food BBQ, I am a fan. For the Kids' meal, we got pulled pork, coleslaw, a roll and a drink ($5, but free on Sundays). We added barbecue sauce to the pulled pork, because it was a little boring. The meat was pretty good quality - tender - but it was boring without the sauce. The coleslaw is a fine chop in a creamy dressing. The roll was as previously described. I would stick with the ribs rather than getting the pulled pork, but I would definitely get the coleslaw again. Mostly, because I love coleslaw with a little BBQ sauce, and theirs is good. At our table, I also had the chance to taste the onion strings (the guy made us an extra order because they took a while - EXCELLENT crispy strings. I also tasted the baked beans. They were a little boring until you added some barbecue sauce, then they were outstanding. My one criticism of all of the food it that it is VERY salty, but I have come to expect that in barbecue restaurants. There is a soft serve machine with cake cones to serve yourself ice cream. (Please don't be the gross people I saw fill their soda cups with ice cream.) I don't like soft-serve, but DH was a fan. Overall, it was a clean restaurant with generous portions of decent barbecue and excellent sides and great service. I would definitely come again. (Granted, I prefer Bludsoe's for the meat, but that is in Compton and is neither convenient nor safe at night.) I can't believe it took me 27 years to finally eat at a Dickey's. There was one in the parking lot of the grocery store that my grandparents shopped in when I was a kid, and we cousins had created quite the store for the place. It turns out that they are not smoking Barbies there after all!!! LOL.

Came by with family due to a friend's recommendation and wow was I impressed. Had the Texas chopped brisket and ribs which we perfect. You can taste the effort put into the great meat and it is hard to beat the price for the quality. Kids eat free here on Sundays and they enjoyed their brisket and turkey breast sandwiches. The free ice cream for all was special and hit the spot. For sides: the fried onion tanglers were really good, reminds me of the big onion rings found at outback but I preferred the spices at Dickies. Will definitely come back.

Dickey's is located in the same strip mall as Whole Foods and Smashburger. They are tucked in the northwest corner and are easy to miss. They have decent barbecue for a reasonable price. It's not going to be "Franklin Barbecue" but you also don't have to fly to Austin Texas. Their brisket is decent and the smoked turkey is excellent. A nice touch is that you get free soft serve ice cream.

Dickey's in Redondo Beach in the shopping plaza is tucked away in the corner, near a Verizon store, Whole Foods, Smash Burger and Fresh Brothers. It's a good reliable BBQ counter service restaurant. I had the Beef Brisket and it's tasty. The original BBQ sauce is okay, the sweet is better, but a good thing to do is blend both of those and add some of the spicy sauce combined. Parking is easy here, and the food is good. They recently ran an ad in a local shopping guide touting "Under New Ownership" (Dickey's is a chain restaurant that is franchised out to individual owners) and had a $4.10 off anything coupon, so I took the bait and was lured in to try 'em. Generally speaking you'll probably spend $10-15 for a meal here, whether lunch or dinner. The one thing that's unique is they offer customers a free self service soft serve ice cream, located near their soda fountain, which is a nice added touch and perfect way to end a meal (or in some cases start a meal off with the sweets, ensuring you have enough room for desert)

REALLY GOOD BBQ! Tried this place today after searching for what to have for lunch and its a hit! Theyre prices are reasonable and you get a ton of food. We tried the brisket, ribs, baked potato casserole, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni, and potato salad. When we didnt like the potato salad they switched it out for baked beans no problem! Really great service and really good food!

Awesome BBQ dining establishment! I went last night for the first time and the food was delicious! I ordered the ham, which was out of this world, and the beef brisket which was tender and delicious. They have a wonderful selection of side dishes (potato casserole and mac n cheese=yum!) and their large yellow cups can be recycled the next time you come in, so you get your drink for a discounted price...and they have complimentary soft serve ice cream!!!! What's better than that?!?? :) The service was exceptional and the two very nice young men that helped me and my friend couldn't have been more friendly or helpful. This pregnant mama to be was craving good BBQ and she came to the right place!!!

3 Meat Plate Portions - decent for BBQ Brisket - nice hint of smoke. A little fatty. Pulled Pork - very good pulled pork. Not overly complicated. Lets meat sing. Spicy Cheddar Sausage - very good. nice hit of spice without overpowering. Cheddar was delicious. Potato Salad - a little "wet" for my liking, but flavors were decent. Green Beans - sorta cooked to death. limp and colorless. Sauces - all three are very good. Free Self Serve Vanilla Soft Serve Ice Cream - a nice touch. Who doesn't like something for nothing? Service - friendly, attentive, excellent. Overall - it's not Award Winning BBQ, but if you want dependable, hearty BBQ with fair portions, this is a great spot. I will return.

My wife and I had a very mediocre experience at Dickey's. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. I may have gone back since there is so little barbecue in our area, but the service was absolutely terrible. No one was rude or mean to us, just EXTREMELY slow. It must have been 6pm and there were maybe 4 people eating and one couple in front of us in line. It took forever to get food. It had to be 7-10 minutes before someone was able to get the couple in front of us their food and begin to take our order. This is not a sit down restaurant! This is a "stand in line like Subway" spot, it was unbelievable. Because of that, we won't be back.

Great place..as soon as I entered I was greeted. The three gentleman helping me was very attentive describing all of their menu items. The chopped brisket was by far my taste buds favorite. I was also surprised to see fried okra on the menu.

I love this place!!!! The service was fast and the food is amazingly filling. I will always recommend all of my friends and fam to stop here over anywhere else any time we have a BBQ craving!

Awesome BBQ with really tastes side dishes - all at s good price. So far I have tried the pulled pork, ribs, coleslaw, and baked potatoe casserole. The BBQ sauce is pretty stellar here. Not to mention, if you leave a review they hook you up with pie.

I think this is the best BBQ in the Southbay! Great menu, great food and supercool staff. The daily combos are a great deal. I'm going to try em all!!!! Only change is come up with a regular combo otherwise ordering ala carte gets pricey. But I'm a fan!!!! I have not been disappointed yet!!!!!!

I wasn't sure what we would get when we decided to try Dickey's. Their big billboard on PCH pointed me right to them or I would have never known they were there. The menu is something to behold. People were standing glazing, trying to figure out what to order. We opted for two meats so that we could all try several things. The pork ribs were great as well as the pulled pork. The turkey was surprisingly tender. The mashed/baked potato casserole was amazing. The average person could probably just do one meat and one side and be full. The team that was on when I was there was efficient and super friendly. I wasn't expecting that. Check it out. They offer free soft serve ice cream to boot. (that is the only downfall -- it is not very creamy. Seems like iced milk. BUT, don't let that stop you. The food is great!

My first impression and I love it here. It's feels chill and relaxing. The workers are friendly and the restaurant is clean. The food is awesome and can be messy so have plenty of napkins near by. To top everything off free dessert!!! Soft serve ice cream YUM!!!!!

Great deal!!! Went in on a Monday & got a pulled pork sandwich with two sides and a soda for less than $10 bucks. Sandwich was great and the best macaroni cheese I have ever had & the beans were good as well! The co-owner came out and introduce himself and I could tell he really cares about the business. I highly recommend!!!

I come here for my BBQ fix. I like how they have different sauces that you can get yourself, and how you can get and make your own soft serve ice cream for free when eating here. The employees have been friendly so far and the food has also been good as well. From their meats, I have tried the pork ribs, beef brisket, chicken, and Polish sausage. From the sides, I have tried the baked potato casserole, fried okra, fried onion tanglers, and BBQ beans. All of what I tried so far were good. The only negative things that happened here was a wrong order, and when I almost slipped right when I walked out of their restroom (not sure if it was the floor or my shoes). I have also been to one other location at the Buena Park Mall, and I prefer this location over that one. The ribs I had there were way too salty, and the ambiance there was not as good as this location as well.

I just went here for the first time two days ago after driving around aimlessly for a new spot to try for lunch. I'm definitely happy I stumbled across this place when I did, the meal I had was perfect. I went with the daily special which was the 3 (+/- a few more) ribs with 2 sides and a buttered roll. For the sides, I asked for a recommendation and wasn't disappointed with the dill potato salad and classic mac n' cheese. Now I can't claim to know the difference between one type of BBQ or the other being a California born guy myself, but I knew after the first bite of rib with the meat falling off the bone that this was something good. I tried to save some food for leftovers, but for some reason, couldn't stop myself. All in all, a delicious meal and I will be there again, thanks!

Just crushed an awesome lunch here at Dickeys. Great food at a great price, Justin and Joey were super polite and were enthusiastic about their jobs- you don't see a lot of employees nowadays like that. I love Dickeys; this one was even better than the one in Palm Springs I just ate at!

This is by far the best Dickeys i have ever been to. The owner alex is very organized and him and all the employees give impeccable customer service. The food was amazing and they really make you feel welcome and i know they genuinely care about the satisfaction of their customers. One thing in particular that i was very impressed with was the fact that the restaurant was spotless. They make sure to clean every time there is a slow moment which is rare but they clean everything every single day. This particular dickies earned my business for life! Because of the service, delicious food, and friendly clean environment, and great prices for bbq. I go here at least twice a week. Keep up the great work guys!

Best BBQ in Redondo Beach. Good food and friendly service. I prefer the spicy BBQ sauce but they are all good. The brisket and the chopped pork are both delicious.

Ordered a two plate combo with sliced brisket and chicken with the jalepenos beans and those fried onions as a side. They screwed up my order because they chopped my brisket and they gave me fries instead of the onions. The chicken was ok and tender but the beef tasted weird like it was old. Beans were good and the waffle fries were ok. For little over 14 bucks this place is not worth it and the bbq is not that great.

Very good food! Lots of meal options! And the free ice cream is great! Small location and limited seating! Cool atmosphere and super friendly staff! The chicken and brisket are amazing! The bacon green beens are very good. Try and get there before 7pm. They ran out of brisket and ribs right after we ordered. (It was the Saturday before super bowl Sunday) Overall, very good Bbq!!!!

One of the best BBQ spots I have found in the South Bay. The brisket is so savory and sends my taste buds for a spin. The workers here are super welcoming and helpful as soon as you walk threw the door. The restaurant is always kept super clean and kept up nicely. I always am treated like part of the family when I come in! It's atypical for a restaurant to do that, which is why I will keep on coming back time after time! AND FREE ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ordered to go with delivery....received order of several sandwiches, none of them labeled. I called back, young man said "We don't label the sandwiches", OK, I can live with that, but what I can't live with is them forgetting the BBQ sauce. They offered to get me BBQ sauce...but the sandwiches would be colder at that point. When I called in, I asked to speak with the manager, but he was too husy to speak with me. I'm done, won't be back.

This is a quick update that I had to add. Personally I'm partial to Dickey's pulled pork, chopped brisket, and spicy smoked cheddar sausage which has actual jalapeno flecks in it. Ribs - stayed away - tried once they were "alrite", and I did not think that you could do proper ribs without a brick or a pit smoker. Couple of Wednesdays ago - gave them a shot, was surprised, tried them again - twice. Here's my $1.25. There are 2 kids (under 25 are kids IMHO) who are responsible for meat - Alex and Joey. Both are good, but Joey's ribs are ethereal (not a lightly handed out compliment). They oblige to all 5 standards of well smoked southern style baby backs. 1. Mahogany, spicy crust. 2. Pink smoke ring. 3. Pull - very important - meat gotta melt in your mouth but it has to have some hold onto the bone. 4. Smoke - correct amount - enough for the taste but does not obfuscate the meat's essence. 5. Lack of fat - indicates initial hand trimming and patient low and slow smoking approach so it melts into the meat - providing tenderness and juiciness, underlines the sweetness. Rib special is Tuesday - 3 bones + 2 sides + refillable 32 oz soft drink + vanilla cone = $8.99. Belly card amounts pretty much to a 12% discount. I am seriously considering moving my weekly lunch engagement from Thursday to Tuesday. Cheers.

So VERY HARD to find true SOUTHERN smoked bar`b`que...LOOK NO MORE! This is the best authentic pulled pork EVER!!!! Only this Southern girls opinion, but!!!!!!!!!!!!!...I have to Steer my car away from driving into the parking lot each and every time I go down PCH in either direction when I am close to Dickies!!!!!! A very SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ALEX!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness gracious...great meat, and "Free" soft serve while you wait for the order to be freshly prepared...the wait is fast...almost too fast, cause I really LOVE the smells there and the soft serve! On Memorial Day my boyfriend and I decided to head out to Redondo Beach to hang out. We had a taste for some BBQ and not being familiar with the neighborhood we looked online and the only place around was Dickey's. I did not have high expectations since our urban taste buds may differ than our counter parts but we felt like being experimental and taking our chances from the only selection that was near. To my dismay there was no smoke bellowing up from the place as you usually see at a regular BBQ location. My 1st instinct was to leave and head to a place that was familiar to us, but being adventurous and having a great time in the area my boyfriend wanted to give them a try, we did not get very much for $26 and wont be returning. This is NOT by any means what I consider BBQ and the portions were child size. I ordered turkey, my boyfriend ordered ham and brisket, we had macaroni and cheese, beans, coleslaw and potato salad; which I will not even comment on. He is generally not a complainer but even he was unsatisfied with the portions as well as the taste especially for the amount that we spent. Maybe this is how BBQ is done in the rural community of Huntington Beach but if you want REAL BBQ then you need to head over to Woody's, Phillips or even Bludso's all of which have several locations and get a taste of what REAL BBQ taste like and I can assure you there is a HUGE difference. You may not get free ice cream or pie, but the prices are a lot cheaper and you get more for your money so you can go buy your own desert or pick up some peach cobbler or banana pudding form either of the three locations I mentioned. I do not recommend this place at all (especially if you are use to real or good bbq) and don't even consider it bbq.

This place has new owners as of last July ('13) so accordingly assess the reviews. For the price, speed, and quality it's a winner. We picked up the Family XL Pack for a post music recital brunch. We had the Brisket, Chicken, Pork, Ribs, Beans, Coleslaw, Mac 'n Cheese, Fried Okra and Rolls. Fed all 8 of us with plenty if leftovers. For a fast food joint it's pretty good. All the meats were flavorful and tender. The sides were solid. Price was right!

  • OctoberLily C.

Ordered the XL Family meal which is supposed to feed 6-8 people. I was very disappointed by the portions they gave me and I paid over $100 total for the meal!! Each of the sides provided did not fill 1/2 of a cereal bowl. I could probably offer a 2 tbsp serving to each guest. The BBQ sauce they provided smelled rancid and it could have been from their broken sewege line that I smelled when I walked in. It was an embarassing night to serve the meniscul portions they provided. Fortunately, our guests were understanding.

Great food! Great service! We love Dicky's BBQ. We don't live in this area, but the food is just as great as the Dicky's by us. Very friendly and helpful staff at this location. Got a good deal on a Dickey's gift card at Costco so wanted to try this place out! Definitely disappointed in the food. Their prices are a lot cheaper than Phil's BBQ and Lucille's BBQ so my standards definitely had to drop. The meats were all diced up so it was hard to tell the quality of the meat. The onion strings were nice but definitely salty! Plus the pulled pork that I ordered was cold. I told the workers and they gave me a new order though. The staff is friendly but the food is not so great. Gave two stars only because of the good deal at Costco. I'll probably go to Lucille's or I wanted BBQ

I was hesitant to try this place because of all the negative reviews. However, I finally tried it and I'll definitely be eating here again. We got pulled pork, brisket, and ribs - all were great! The ribs especially For sides, Mac n cheese, fries, green beans, fried okra, and coleslaw - the fries and okra were not great, but they were't horrid either - the green beans were great (they reminded me of my favorite BBQ hole in the wall in Texas All in all, really liked this place and I recommend it. You can't complain when you get tasty AND affordable BBQ especially in the Southbay

I'm going to write the kind of review I wish I had read before I went here. First of al, the place is small...super small. Seats 40-50 people at best. Tables are set for either parties of six or parties of 2-4. With only two of the bigger tables filled, we squeezed our party of three into one of the small tables and felt cramped the whole time. I am so thankful that the others that were to meet us here had to cancel because I don't know how a large party would do here. Second, the presentation - terrible. Had you asked me prior if I would have cared if my food was served on a metal cookie sheet type of tray with a decorative paper on top, I would have said who cares...its the food that matters. With that said, I now really feel it distracts from the experience. It was sort of how I imagine food deliver in prison to be like....here's your tray with a scoop of this and a scoop of that... Lastly, the food.....It wasn't terrible, but at the same time it wasn't over the top to have me running back for more. Between the three of us, we had a sampling of nearly every meat on the menu and I can honestly say it was mediocre. The side dishes were fine. Nothing to write home about, nothing over the top, just fine. I will say that I thought the brisket was terrible and could barely take a second bite of it. If I were going to catch a movie and was craving BBQ, I might try it again, but definitely not going out of my way to make a second trip here. Will add that service was very attentive and food came out crazy fast.

Have been looking for good barbeque in the South Bay, and decided to give Dickey's a try today. Got the 2 Meat Combo with sliced brisket and ribs, with sides of mac and cheese and potato salad. Let"s start with the positives: 1) Loved the sliced brisket. Juicy and full of flavor. All that could have made this item better was if there was bark on the meat. 2) Loved all 3 sauces (original, sweet and spicy). 3) The roll was a sweet surprise, more like a sweet bread than a standard sandwich roll or a biscuit. Perfect size to make a slider. Now, to the negatives: 1) The ribs had great bark, and the fat cap underneath had tons of flavor. Unfortunately the ribs were very salty, and the "fall of the bone" texture was so soft it was mealy. 2) The mac and cheese was fairly loose, and reminded me of Kraft mac and cheese made with Velveta. Not what I expect from a BBQ joint. 3) The potato salad had great texture, and is made with lots of dill. Unfortunately, I happen to hate dill, so definitely not my favorite. Overall I was not thrilled, but I enjoyed the brisket and bark from the ribs so much that I will be back to try other options.

Just finished my to-go order and let me say this was NOT the Dickey's I experienced when I was in Dallas. First off, I ordered online for pickup because the website touted it as a no-wait experience. "Skip the line" they said, "no need to wait" they exclaimed...B.S. I actually showed up 5 or so mins late to pickup my order and it hadn't even been put together yet. In fact, I stood in the pickup line for a good 5-10 mins while they served EVERYONE IN THE REGULAR LINE FIRST. I wasn't even ACKNOWLEDGED until everyone else had been served. Some line-skipping I afforded myself. On to the food... The fried onions were actually really good, and the Mac was OK. Your Stoffer's creamy cheese sort of Mac. However I was completely dismayed to open the BBQ container and find NO BBQ SAUCE on neither my ribs nor my sausage. Wtf?! What is BBQ w/o sauce? There was nowhere online I recollect being given the option to select a sauce or no sauce. And being that they hadn't even gotten my order started they surely could've asked me about my sauce needs as they assembled. The ribs were too salty. The links were fine but would've been amazing if they'd had SAUCE. And there was simply no such thing as customer service. IF I return, I will not order ahead, wait in the regular line, and be an annoying overly involved in the process customer so my stuff comes out RIGHT. And that's IF...

I've long looked for a place that serves a decent rack of St. Louis ribs for a decent price. While I never held out hope for half rack plate in the $5-$10 range, something in the $12 range was always a possibility. Dickey's happens to serve this very dish on their premises and now I have my go-to lunch bbq joint. It's not the best barbecue in the world, but it's far from the worse. More times than not I just want somewhere to eat barbecue that isn't a huge affair where you have to go to a loud, obnoxious joint like Lucille's. I can go in quickly, grab a bite, and satisfy my rib craving without breaking the bank. That's a small treasure that I never had before and a treasure you can have to if you're in the area

[Review #47] We've been coming here at least a couple of times every month with my l'il one's godparents & their kids. My husband was initiated for the 1st time today. Upon entry, one of the guys would shout a greeting. Once you receive your order, someone would walk by to check on you or to remove the dirty/empty trays if you haven't done so. It's a very friendly, everyone's my buddy kinda place (YO, WASSUP)... my l'il one likes the guys here & always lights up (& whoops it up) when I tell her we're going to Dickey's for lunch/dinner. I love the smokiness/tenderness of the pulled pork & brisket... with 2 sides: usually mac & cheese, fried okra, waffle iron fries, or fried onion tanglers. I always add a heavy hand of their sweet & spicy BBQ sauce; it is savory to the point of finger-licking goodness (slurp, slurp). My daughter usually has the kid's meal: chicken nuggets, mac & cheese with a fruit punch. This is the only place (so far) where she'll eat & finish her bowl of creamy mac & cheese. My husband followed suit & added the same sauce to his brisket sandwich. He was happy to find a closer BBQ joint than Chinatown (our old haunt was Spring Street Smoke House, but their food has been slowly going downhill so we haven't been back since 2012). I think he's going crave coming here, especially for dessert. (Drum roll please...) Dickey's gives FREE ICE CREAM as much as you can stuff after your meal... a classic vanilla cone that's a little bit icy & plenty creamy. Enough said. Well, not quite. I was in the middle of writing a review & gave them 4 stars (but I forgot to post). I would have given them 5 stars for the updated review for today's visit. Why, you ask? After I placed our order, I waited at the register to pay & the cashier gave me the total & I said, "What!?! I think you forgot to add my order." Nope. Apparently, my daughter had her free meal (kids eat free on Sundays) & my dinner was also free (probably comped because of Mother's Day)... you get that extra star & my loyal patronage. Delish!

This is my favorite bbq in SOCAL. It beats famous Dave and lucilles hands down. You cannot find a better and more delicious value than their deal of the day. And it's always some of their best stuff. Do not leave without eating the baked potato casserole, you will regret missing it forever!

Disgusting experience in both the food and the owner Alex. SEE PHOTOS 19 & 20 OF MY DISGUSTING CHICKEN!!! I have gone a few times with little things off here and there...usually ok since the items suffice. This time was different... Went in with my girl and we both ordered chicken breast. The first part Alex carved up looked sketchy (fat & tendons or something) and my girl friend asked if she could have a different part of the breast. He seemed offended and started to argue a bit. I stepped in and asked if he could just please give her the other breast which he did as he said "I smoked the chicken and there is no fat on our chicken". Then I was next. He served me the chicken that my girlfriend didn't want and we went on our way. I get home and the first bite felt like jello. I was immediately pissed that a few minutes ago the owner just told us "my chicken does not have fat in it". So I call the store... Alex gets on the phone and basically screams at me tells me to bring it back so he see that there is actually fat in it. Normally I would laugh this off but he was such an arrogant person I wanted to at least get the satisfaction of showing him this disgusting chicken. I get there and his story changes the second he looks at the chicken....and I quote..."Chicken has fat in it...what did you expect?!". I almost lost it so I let him know that being an arrogant, defensive owner will eventually ruin his business and left. BTW...he DIDN'T offer me a refund. Horrible experience!!! Stay away from Alex and his BBQ chop shop!!!

Absolutely the best Texas Barbeque in the South Bay; and I am not sure that Texas could make it better!.. The chopped brisket is moist, smoky and delicious with or without sauce. Service and staff are both great. These guys really care about what they are doing. I go there at least once a week.

Good stuff I can't believe how consistent dickeys Bbq has been with everything I've ordered!!! Wow Thanx again to all at dickeys in Redondo Beach especially the owner Alex! See ya guys soon! chef Tim

If you like bbq this is the place!! Bbq sauce is perfect and the meat falls off the bone. The coleslaw was fresh with great flavor and if you have room when you're done there's free ice cream.

I haven't been here for a long time. I so miss it. I love there bbq sauce and pulled pork. I recommend this place. Nice and friendly service. They have t.v. so you can watch football or ESPN. It's a small place and they also have out door sitting.

I've had delicious barbecue through out the Los Angeles area, but today my tongue has tasted the king of all barbeques. The meat was very tender and the sides were to die for. I'm definitely coming back

I had the pulled pork sandwich and it was very good. The bun was a little bit over buttered, otherwise I'd give it a 5 star! Free ice cream, and very friendly staff.

Ok, if you read any of my other reviews, you'll know that I'm pretty diverse with my food experiences and definitely not easy on the review. That being said, I'm super impressed with Dickey's. It's a chain BBQ joint. Take it for what it is. I had the brisket, which was really good for the price (and IMO, better than Horse Thief, which is supposed to be AMAZING). The hubs had the Pulled Pork (yum!) and the BBQ Pork Ribs (meh). The Onion Straws were hot and crispy, cole slaw as expected, and Mac N Cheese that deliciously weird KFC kind. You know what I'm talking about. It's terrible in that really good kinda way. Ingredients for a pretty satisfying meal. Free ice cream. Dinner for two for about $25. All wins in my book. But, I'll have to say, the best part of Dickey's was the staff. Bravo to you for hiring some highly conscientious high school / college "kids." Fast food can sometimes suck, but at Dickey's it was pretty great. Go. Eat. Enjoy.

Went here for Labor Day! And OMG my husband literally said I'm in heaven baby girl lol we LOVED every bit of the food and the guys were SUPER sweet and VERY welcoming! We got there minutes before they opened and everything was so fresh and hot we will deff be going back my husband just couldn't get enough of it :) we are both from the south (Texas&Georgia) so it's AMAZING for us to find some good southern BBQ around here. Thanks for the amazing experience and we will deff be back very soon

My friend won't stop raving about this place so we had to give it a try. I got the plate with chopped brisket and marinated chicken. The brisket was really tender and juicy, but the chicken was a bit dry and not as tender. The roll was ok; I wish they had corn bread. The mac n cheese and baked potato sides were really good. I got the big yellow cup for some sweet tea, and you get to recycle the cup for discounted drinks for your next visit. My favorite part: free soft served ice cream! They had root beer on the fountain, and if I wasn't so stuffed on BBQ already, I would've totally made a root beer float to go =)

I went to this Dickey's Barbecue Pit, because I was craving some barbecue. This place is nothing like Phil's BBQ in San Diego. When I got there, it was not as dirty as someone had wrote in one of the reviews. I sensed that the staff there was not exactly enthusiastic about working there. I went to go place my order. I ordered two kinds of meat, the beef brisket and the pulled pork with fried okra and a side of potato salad. It also came with a small piece of bread. The server gave me this charred meat (the burnt part that is at the end of the meat), that I saw him slice off before serving. I was surprised that they served it to me. Since I was so hungry, I ate it, but it was pretty freaking gross. I think that this is a bad place, because of the meat they served me, but I didn't complain. The potato salad tasted average. Nothing out of the ordinary. The fried okra was the only thing that tasted like they put a little effort in it. I also ordered a Pulled Pork sandwich to go, which I ate at home. It was not good. I think barbecued meat should taste slow cooked, juicy, and tender. But their meat tasted hard and tough. Overall, I would say that it was poorly prepared. They had free vanilla ice cream, which was the only decent thing there, besides the fried okra. I would not recommend this place. It's horrible.

Been here twice now. Both times, they did not have onion rings and I had to wait until half-way through the meal to receive them. The first time this happened, I noticed the staff took back onion rings from another patron. That same tray of food came back to me- not good at all. I think the guys try real hard to do their best but the chick there does not do them any favors.

This is no "hole in the wall bbq" which is better, but it is good for a chain BBQ place. I have eaten "to go" here several times in the past year. With any bbq place I go to I prefer that they serve the bbq sauce on the side so you can taste the smoked meat. I like the variety of side orders too (fried okra, jalapeno beans, etc.), and the cole slaw is good too! The only thing I do not like is the 1 and 2 meat plates are skimpy on the meat. (I have only ordered the brisket and pulled pork.) The brisket is seasoned well, however, the pulled pork is very bland.

First time here and right off the bat they greeted me as soon as I walked in. Besides the smell of fresh BBQ food the customers service is amazing just like the food. The beef brisket was off the chain along with the ribs!! If you like BBQ food I highly recommend this spot!!

Dickey's is a must if you're looking for BBQ in the South Bay. They have a great selection of meats and sides that are delicious, competitive pricing, and the service was delightful. Each staff member was friendly and welcoming to our group of 25. We truly appreciate their patients with our group. Everyone had a great time and we'd like to thank the Dickey's staff for that. The free ice cream is also a plus!

As expected Read many reviews prior to going in. Dickey's has several hundred locations and most are rated at a 2, only a few are rated higher. There is a smoky smell upon entry, but the meat doesn't have much of one... Ordered the two meat plate - $13.59. Got about 8 oz of brisket and 3 pork ribs. No smoke rings or any other evidence of having been smoked. The brisket & ribs were both tender and cooked at the appropriate length of time. Two sides came with it, I ordered the mac & cheese which was very much like El Pollo Loco's and then the mashed potatoes which were labeled as the most popular of the choices. The mashed potatoes were just ok, didn't taste like there was any milk or butter used to create them. There are 3 choices of sauce that you can add to your meal, spicy, original and sweet. I had the spicy and it was a nice addition. Bottom line if you want good bbq in LA, try Phillips, Baby Blues or Bludso for better taste at comparable prices. AND, this might be a Texas born chain, but this is not Texas barbecue, they'll tell you that when you look at the meat selections.

After two bad experiences with this place, I have to share. We ordered off of Eat24 and our order took almost two hours. For one order of meat and three sides. And it was placed at 5:15, which is pretty reasonable. Two hours and three hungry kids later...the food arrives. They threw in some cold rolls, extra BBQ sauce, and a 1/4 pound of extra pork Great. My peeve is that they gave me excuse after excuse "Oh, we don't know where the delivery guy is" and "He just left five minutes ago" and "My manager will talk to you in 5 minutes, you can hold". Apparently it took the delivery guy 20 minutes to travel 1.5 miles. and after SEVEN call attempts, where every single call went to their hillbilly voicemail, I called on a different line and MAGIC! They answered! The same employee answered and apologized, saying they're busy...blamed Eat24 (which is where I clicked on their restaurant over others), and denied ignoring the calls. Finally, the food arrives and they forgot one of the sides. And this is the second time I've been let down by Dickey's. Another time we called and ordered for pick up. My husband arrived, and they had no record of it. So, drumroll... they threw in extra rolls! I guess that is their go-to apology...old rolls. Get it together Dickey's!

Came back to dickeys a few days ago, im glad they are maintaining their reputation! I got a two meat plate with Brisket and Pulled pork, both were absolutely delicious. The thing that really blew me away though was the service, the staff was awesome. Really friendly and energetic. I met Joey, the new manager and he is awesome, Ive seldom met someone more enthusiastic about what they do. If you have not tried this place yet, you absolutely need to.

They way over smoke the meat & I didn't like their souses.. Its not the BBQ that makes your soul smile.. & most importantly its over priced.. The kids working there were very nice though;) oh the free Ice cream didn't make up fo for the $16 lunch.

Met Alex, the NEW owner tonight. He's working hard to make this a great BBQ place so if you came in before and were disappointed, please come back and give Alex and Dickey's another chance. The food presentation reminds me of this hole in the wall BBQ place in Texas that was ALWAYS busy!

If I could give less then zero I would. Worst customer service ever!! The owner was so rude and yelled at us on the phone. Told me I ruined his night after I called to check on our order that at 2 hours still had not arrived. I told the owner that after he was so awful I would write a yelp review , he told me I should he didn't care I was never coming back there... Nope I'm not but I will be sure to tell friends family and everyone I meet how terrible Doug's business is!

I lived in the South and Texas for 3 years and have had my fair share of proper Southern BBQ. I've been wanting to try Dickey's for a long time now. I was in the area to see a friend, saw this restaurant so I gave it a try. Wow I was surprised. The smells, the music playing, the southern inspired pop art and decor the atmosphere instantly threw me right back into Southern proper. Smiles. Thanks for the sentiment. I could never ask this restaurant to outdo a Southern BBQ Shack in the rural South but wow the food was everything I could ask for in... Redondo? Who would have thought of all places! If I had to compare the QUALITY of the food to another fast pace restaurant I would compare it to Jersey Mike's Subs, but Dickey's offers so much more with their different meats and sandwiches and many different sides. I definitely recommend this place! I would suggest adding cheddar cheese to melt on top of the mac & cheese, it would give it more of a home cooked twist, but no biggie. To top it all off, FREE SOFT-SERVED ICE CREAM. oooo eeemmm geee. (Buy a meal first of course.) Great place to take the kids after a day at the Harbor. The staff were very helpful, inviting, and considerate. This location has a new owner, Alex. He was so congenial and forthcoming with everyone who walked in, helped them very attentively and respectfully, and he was working hard. While I can't say that I'll be coming back soon- living so far away- based on my experience here, I REALLY hope Corporate decides very very soon to open up a Dickey's Barbecue Pit near Redlands, Ca. Redlands would welcome such place!

Decent BBQ. Small portions for the price. Meat isn't very fresh but tastes good. Daily specials are the only reason to come to this place.

  • Jeff K.

The BBQ is average, which is as good as or better than most places in LA, but it's decent if you are comparing it to fast food choices rather than a true sit down BBQ joint. Of the meats nothing really stands out to me, good or bad. The sides are passable. The warm spicy BBQ sauce is pretty good. And I'm not a huge fan of sweet tea in general but I like theirs. Bonus for the free ice cream.

Tried Dickeys out last night for the first (and last time) This place was disgusting. The meat was cold...not even warm was cold. I politely let the guy working know and he was not only rude about it but when we got our plates back the food was STILL cold. Gross. I definitely will not be coming back.

  • Lex T.

well the ribs are ok... half a rack of pork is $15 lol and its a bit scrawny no beef ribs either which is kinda lame, i think im making Dickies rich. if your smart drive down to wholefoods elsegundo , for $12 you get alot of high quality meat this was my second time here and both times i used the bathroom, yet they havent installed the paper towel rack on the wall. there is a roll of towels sitting on the floor and in the sink. i suggest the r & b bbq joint in dominguez hills , the black folks will show you real bbq

For the life of me, I cannot understand why this place has only a 2.5 stars. I eat there probably twice a month - sometimes more. The staff is always friendly, polite - the BBQ a B to a B+. The manager there is great also, you can tell he cares about the store and your experience. The BBQ, for LA, is quite good. There are some absolutely disgusting BBQ places here in LA - this is NOT one of them. The place is clean, the food is more than good and the prices are fair. I get the little hogue with two sides and it more than fills me up. Their sides are fantastic. The coleslaw is better than KFC in my opinion. Their potato salad is good as well. I highly recommend getting a stuffed baked potato with all of the fixings. The free ice cream is a nice touch as well. Honestly, I don't understand the poor reviews. The food and staff have always been great. I wouldn't eat there two or three times a month if it wasn't.

  • Ian D.

Since BBQ is rare in CA, they really hold you hostage. 1st time I paid 11 something for the BBQ sandwich meal, 2 sides, and a drink. The 2nd time I paid 14.00 for the meat plate which is basically the sandwich subtract the bun and has 2 sides and a drink. They also force you to buy a plastic yellow beverage cup. So I felt super wasteful after leaving too. I actually like the BBQ and I lived in NC for 8 years, but I feel like I was d*cked over for what they charge.

I am only giving this place a 1 star because the delivery guy was nice. We placed an order with 3 seperate meats, when we got our order we noticed right away that the order was short one meat, So we called GH and they called Dickey's, and I was told the following: They put our order togather correctly, they did not mess up and we are mistaken, They stated that they put 2 of the meats in one box, they will not be sending anyone back out to make a new delivery, but we can have a 15% if we want to order again. Wow, thank goodness I ordered via GH, So they gave me a credit for the missing meat. but I will not be ordering from this place again, but hay, thanks for enough BBQ sause for 3 meats and only delivering 2...

  • Ron C.

In my opinion, Dickey's Redondo Beach is more of a novelty, rather than a traditional barbecue joint. For what it is, the food there is not bad. Yes, it is a tad overpriced, and yes it does lack that "Down Home" ambiance and yes, the portions are rather small, But for the uninitiated, (those who have never been to a real BBQ joint) it's an okay place to eat. Growing up with family from the south, I might be a bit biased. Remember, the "Texas" style of barbecue is different from other styles, and Dickeys falls in line with the Texas style.

  • Phil C.

From a southern family, BBQ is nearly a religion, so I am ALWAYS on the lookout for another BBQ place that does NOT suck, and this is one of them. Is it EXCELLENT BBQ? No, but it is very good! Their food is well done, meat tasty and lots of smoke flavor. Sides are really good and decent portions all the way around. Also, FREE ICE CREAM! Which is always a great way to finish off a BBQ restaurant. There ARE better BBQ places, but few and far between, especially in LA! Worth a try if you are a fan of BBQ!

My visit on 4/22 was a fluke sorry to say. Went in today and at 11:50 am already out of food. Poor management planing. It is Labor Day and management should have planned accordingly. I gave up and left...when I did someone ran out after me and began pounding on my car. NEVER EVER GO HERE!

I was very hesitant about this place, but lo-and-behold, it was actually quite enjoyable! There are SO many varying reviews so it was really hard to know if this place would be good/bad/or just really inconsistent (which to me, can be bad) I went here last night with average expectations and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was. Sure the ambiance is very lacking but this is just a little corner store. I think I would actually call this place a fast food type barbecue joint because you order at a counter and the girl that was working just got all the meats and sides together since pretty much everything seemed to be already made. Very quick getting the food, even though she seemed to be the only person working. The only drawback I found about this process was that the plates end up being kinda slick with grease. Not a big deal though. It's a BBQ joint so, it's bound to be messy right? There are some tables inside and some outside. Nothing fancy at all really, just basic square tables and chairs with that vinyl kind of 'tablecloth'. Paper towels and some wet-naps on the tables, plastic cutlery to eat with, you get your sauce in a little paper cup, and there's big dill pickles in a jar that you can help yourself to. Overall I thought the food was quite good. I chose the two meat plate with the "fall off the bone ribs" and the Texas style chopped brisket. The brisket was my favorite, although a bit fatty, but it was definitely moist and flavorful. Adding some of their original and sweet sauces made it even better. The ribs were also good and came pretty clean off the bone, but I felt that without the sauce they were kind of flavorless. Their sauces though I thought were VERY good and really made the food come together. They have three different sauces, original, sweet & spicy. All three are flavorful, they have a nice smokiness that isn't overpowering and each have a nice sweet and tangy-ness that goes well with the barbecued meats. The sides were also pretty good. I chose coleslaw and the baked potato casserole and both were tasty. The coleslaw is made very similar to the way KFC does theirs. It's chopped up rather finely but this one was much lighter with the dressing, definitely a plus for me. The baked potato casserole is more like red mashed potatoes that are topped with bacon, cheese and some green chives. Now I usually don't like mashers, but these were really good! They had a thicker texture that I enjoyed and the toppings really made it taste like a "baked potato". Also, they serve all the meat plates with a roll that is pretty delicious. It's soft and doughy with a slight sweetness/saltiness. Kind of reminiscent of pizza dough! I thought it went really well with the meat though so, yum! Dickey's definitely impressed me this time, and I think I would come back again. I'd like to try their other meats as well as their sandwiches. It seems like they have a pretty good special every day for a relatively good price. While this place seems to be a tad overpriced, if you dine-in you can at least eat all the pickles you want AND help yourself to free ice cream (even though it's just one of those vanilla soft serve machines, but hey it's FREE!)

My 2nd visit to a Dickey's BBQ. I thought the first one I visited was great, but this one was EVEN BETTER! I got the meal deal with the big sandwich and was very happy with it. The sauce goes great on the brisket. Definitely going to go back and try the other meats. The Waffle Fries were as good as chik-fila's, and the two girls I went with agreed that the Mac an Cheese was most EXCELLENT. When you order drinks here they come in these awesome reusable cups! I love that! If you're not into that, you can at least recycle them as they are fully recyclable! The staff was also very helpful and friendly, the guy behind the counter helped me pick which meat to order in my sandwich, when I wasn't sure which one was the best. Oh, and to top the experience off, FREE ICE CREAM! This ice cream is totally delicious and you can have as much as you want. Apparently it's dairy free too, so those of you that are lactose intolerant need not worry. Overall one of my best BBQ experiences EVER. I would come back any day! I'm going to tell all my friends about this place.

It looks like this place is trying really hard to go out of business. What a disaster! They were out of 4 of the 8 drinks. Also, despite signs that list the following, they were out of these too: onion tanglers, any kind of potato chips and onion rings. The ribs were covered in fat..... Not really edible. Awful!!!!

Took my wife and parents on New Years Day, so glad they were open! We meet the owner Alex, Luke & another gentleman (apologies for not catching the name). We were greeted as soon as we walked in, and were helped with suggestions since this was our first time eating at Dickey's. Sadly some items were sold out but this was due to heavy traffic of it being New Years day, a day when many places are closed. We ate the XL Family Pack. We ordered the Pulled Pork, Spicy Cheddar Sausage, Pork Ribs and the Chicken. Normally you get to choose 3 meats but they graciously allowed us to do a split order with the Ribs and Sausage due to that days circumstances. For our Sides we ordered BBQ Beans, Potato Salad and Waffle Iron Fries. Now until I believe 3/31 with the XL Family pack your sides are Doubled!! Also if you sign up on the official website ( dickeys.com ) for the Big Yellow Cup Club, you get a voucher you can print out for a free Drink. I was wondering if I would have any trouble using 4 vouches for 4 drinks, I was given no problem whatsoever. How was everything? It was great! As for the Meats they were all delicious. I was expecting some fat on some of the meats but I don't know if it was the smoking process or what but if there was any fat we couldn't find it. To my surprise the chicken was awesome. I was thinking chicken is chicken is chicken. Wrong, this chicken is as Dickeys.com says "savory, italian marinated chicken breasts"! For the sides I think I loved the Waffle Iron Fries the most. There are a lot of places that make fries and a lot of ways to do it. These are simple and delicious, I'm glad the fries were doubled with the current promotion as mentioned above. Did I mention Free Ice Cream at the end of your meal!!! I ordered gift cards from costco.com , savings which makes this place all the more enjoyable to eat at. We'll be back! (Some reviews have negative comments about the Owner. I found him and everyone else there to be very pleasant and reasonable. Everyone was patient throughout our ordering process (we were a bit slow, first time) and they were cool enough to spend some time and chat with us after our meal. Thanks for a great experience guys!)

We thought Dickey's was fantastic. This is real Texas BBQ, not the West Coast California version. The Westerner sandwich is to die for....I had brisket with the spicy chedder sausage....smothered in the warm red sauce. Heaven. My wife had the fall of the bone ribs and my son ate free (Sunday). My favorite sides are the macaroni and cheese and the waffle iron fries. I also ate enough of the free pickles to send me over the edge. This place is real home cookin'. And don't forget the free ice cream....or you can do it like my son and make rootbeer floats in your yellow cup. They are tucked in the corner of the shopping center, but it is worth tracking down. Also met the owner, very very nice! Feels great to support a locally owned restaurant.

This place is even fatty for a bbq restaurant. It is kind of like a comfort food place trying to operate as chipotle, but it is super unorganized and as a result the line takes forever. There was only three groups in line, all of three or less people. As we waiting for the guy (only one guy behind the counter to get the food ready, the other ones just stood by the register waiting.) to finish the group ahead of us the people behind us got disgruntled and left after the 5 minute mark hit. The restaurant was empty, it shouldn't take that long to get food, especially when the pitcher house is right upstairs. When we finally got up there we got the polish sausage and some ribs, the sausage was cold and over cooked and the ribs were dripping with sauce. The mashed potato were ok but the Mac and cheese was so thick and gooey I had trouble swallowing it. Not to mention it was over 20 bucks for just those two meals. Also they advertised beer, but when we got there there was only two left, of one type. blah.

Ok, so my first set of heavenly ribs must have been a fluke...wah wah waaah Went back 2x more. Both times the ribs were either overcooked end pieces (basically inedible) or dried out middle ribs. I don't know, maybe the first time they were just freshly cooked and cut. As opposed to being wrapped in cellophane to die a slow death of dehydration in the warming trays. Also tried the baked potato casserole, very salty. The greens beans, total mush. Oh well.

If you're ordering for pick-up/delivery be aware: Your order will be late.... We ordered two turkeys for an office potluck that were delivered an hour and a half late (they were late starting our order so they offered to deliver it). We were offered a half-hearted apology and no redress. Also, the food was just OK. I'd perhaps add one star to my rating if it weren't for the disruption the wait caused to busy schedules... We didn't sit down to a rushed meal at almost 1pm that was scheduled for 11:30am.

This Dickeys BBQ is by far the best of any I've been to. Alex (the Owner) does a great job meeting his clients. He has also done a great job hiring a staff that actually cares about their customers. Great customer service and excellent food is all you can ask for. Thank you Alex and Team you guys are awesome!!!!

Super yummy!! Kids eat free on Sunday and free soft serve with every visit! Pork ribs were awesome, and so was the Baked Potato Casserole.

Excellent BBQ. Had the Chopped Beef Brisket, pulled pork, chicken... First discovered Dickies in Utah when I was on travel there, and was excied to learn they were here in the South Bay. Tender delicious meats, GREAT barbeque sauce (spicy is my fav), helpful workers, and veryt typical southern style BBQ decor. Evidently there was a change of owners of this particular place in summer 2013, and the new owner, Alex, is doing a great job! Only negative is that it is so tucked away in a corner of the shopping center, it is easy to miss unless you are determined to find it by its address. But definitely worth the search!

Pretty standard fast food bbq place... It's a good place for a quick bbq lunch and their $2 chicken sandwich deals on Mondays is worth stopping by for. Their sides are standard. mac and cheese, beans, potatoes, fries, etc.. You can get combo plates that have your choice of meat and 2 sides or combo sandwiches.. I've tried the chopped brisket and the ribs.. Go for the brisket.

the hubby wanted a beach volleyball birthday party for his 30th so we were looking for food options near the beach. we'd been to other Dickeys and thought bbq was a good option for variety of people, so we called in an order half a week early. decided to go with the delivery buffet and they didn't bat an eye at our request to deliver to the beach or us not being sure where we would be since it depended on volleyball net availability. it includes 2 meats 3 sides, biscuits, fixings, sauce... and all the plates, eating and serving utensils, etc. delicious food and generous portions. everybody was stuffed (after working up an appetite running around!) and we still had left overs. plus they deliver within 10 miles (including walking down the hill onto the beach at Avenue A) and include everything / setup... without any complaints. because really, who wants to leave in the middle of a gathering, trek up the hill, get in the car to pick up food, and trek down the hill balancing several big bags.... the only thing we supplied was a table. so convenient, and at $12.50/person plus tax, very reasonably priced. We'd definitely use them again for more events.

Man, people be hatin' on Dickey's! While there is nothing mindblowing about Dickey's, it's not absolute shit. It should be expected that a quick to-go style BBQ joint will not serve as great quality as the sit-down-oriented competition like Lucille's, Famous Daves, and the like. But for what you pay, what you get, and how quickly you get it, Dickey's is not bad at all. Think of a DiGiorno pizza - definitely not as good as the stuff you get at a real pizza parlor, but when you factor in the cheapness, convenience, and the decent taste for microwavable pizza, it ain't that bad. Skip the sandwiches and just go for the combo plate - pulled pork, sliced beef brisket, and the spicy cheddar sausage are my favorites (I would strongly recommend you steer clear of the ribs - you're better off eating the processed ones found in a Hungry Man frozen dinner). Fried onion tanglers, mac & cheese, and baked potato casserole are solid choices for side orders. The prices may seem a little steep, since you're paying about $12 for a two-meat plate with two sides, but the portions are fair. The BBQ sauce here is quite tasty - I like to pour it on the onion tanglers and potato...and sometimes on my hair if I'm feeling particularly saucy! If you dine-in, you can enjoy free soft serve after the meal - or before, in case you have to wait for your meal. Unfortunately, the soft serve is kind of funky...not in a Earth Wind & Fire way, but in a "what even is this?" kind of way. The color is a tad yellowy white and it almost looks translucent, which is weird. I was hoping for more of a McDonald's consistency, but whatever... Grade: Beggars can't be choosers!

So I'll go a bit easy on Dickeys for two reasons..1.) we aren't in Texas 2.) it was the Sunday after thanksgiving so I'm sure they have been slow the past 48 hours which I'm sure compromised the overall quality. I ordered the sliced beef brisket with side of baked beans and green beans with bacon. My fiancé had the pulled pork with Mac and cheese and jalapeño beans. BBQ brisket: very dry as if it had sat out too long. Pulled pork: not bad but not great. Both meats were lean. BBQ baked beans: they were fine. I ate them. Mac an cheese: tasty ill admit but at the same time overlooked and mushy. Jalapeño beans: overly sweet Green beans with bacon: bland, tasted canned. I would maybe give them another chance since I'm sure a slow past couple of days due to the holiday caused me to have the leftovers from the last time they were busy. I hope they can improve since the entire South Bay lacks a good BBQ place. This place is better than Pinky's in HB though.

I like a good barbecue place and its a bonus that they deliver but this place was absolutely ridiculous!!! We used an online delivery service, of which we are frequent customers and have yet to be disappointed, to order our food tonight. First off we get a call from the delivery driver stating he is parked in a red zone and so we have to go downstairs and pick up our food. Now understand that the delivery directions explained how to get in the gate with a simple three digit number and NO OTHER DELIVERY DRIVER has had any trouble getting in the gate and upstairs to our door. So we walk downstairs and the guy has the nerve to be standing at the gate! He could have just come in, used the elevator ten feet to his right and come up to our apartment! If we wanted to bring our own food upstairs we would have gotten it to go. So needless to say he got no tip. Then we get our food and we get shorted on everything but the side dishes that came with our food and the extra sauce we requested. This was a terrible experience and at this point I'm just going to get food to go from the local bbq place down the street. Yet another place down because of poor service! If I could give no stars then I would!!!

I am not sure what is going on with this location and their agreement with GH but there is something that is off with their delivery service. GH was very quick to offer me a credit when I online chatted with them to figure out where my order was. Not sure where the disconnect is but I have faith in the owner of Dickey's to get it figured out quick. I have this faith because I met the owner of this establishment last night when he personally delivered my order to my front door. He was very apologetic since my order was over an hour late. I am normally not sympathetic towards bad service but I find it hard to believe that the owner would make a delivery personally unless there was something that was awry. I will continue to support this establishment. I do feel that their food is very good for a franchise BBQ joint. I also support an owner who takes sole responsibility and holds himself accountable for mistakes that may or may not be in his control. Beef brisket is delicious, pulled pork is as well! I like the BBQ sauce. The sides leave something more to be desired but the meats are all tasty! Also, I always get a piece of pecan pie to follow up a delicious meal. It is great!

I've been here 3-4 times. I always leave feeling like I got robbed. $12 or $13 for a luke warm piece of meat and 2 pre-made sides that are just scooped into your plate. I come back because I love BBQ and options are slim at lunch time in my area. But the food is overpriced in my opinion given the small portions and sub-par quality.

Very average bbq place And service is sloooowwww. Beyond belief slow. Turtle and snail passing you easily slow. Did I say slow? Had a one meat plate with a couple of sides. A spendy $12 with tax. Brisket was dry. At least the sweet sauce was good enough to shine that turd into something edible. Cole Slaw was not bad Green Beans with bacon. Well, what was in that cup was green. More like mush and no bacon in sight. Except on the sign where it said "with Bacon" Note to management. This means add bacon. Last note I would like to make comes with a parental warning. Also a don't read this if you're eating warning. Guy working there on Tuesday nights. Pull up your pants. Last thing I need to see is your plumbers crack bringing out my food. My search for awesome bbq continues!

If I could put ZERO stars, I would have... I visited the Redondo Beach store just less than an hour ago. We ordered at 11:58 AM That is LUNCH time. We waited 10+ minutes to even speak to someone to take our order. And there was only one other couple in front of us, ONE! Almost all of the chairs (except for two tables) still were up on the tables. The floors and tables we very dirty. They were out of ALL of the food items that we wanted (brisket, both Texas and Sliced, waffle fries and mac & cheese). We both ordered the Big BBQ Sandwich. It was served on a small hoagie roll, it is supposed to be served on a big bun. 3 of the 6 fountain drinks were OUT OF ORDER. The ice cream machine was non-operational. There were THREE napkin dispensors on the table we sat at, 2 of the 3 were completely empty, and the 3rd had three napkins left. Which we quickly used and ran out of! And finally, there was a large bone, about 3 inches long, in my fiance's sandwich (we ordered the fried turkey as they were out of the brisket.) Bottom line, we will NOT EVER be going to this restaurant again.

Our family just thinks that this is the best bbq place in California. Our order was complete with no mistakes. The young gentlemen in there work so hard and they are so professional and friendly. I will let everyone we know about Dickey's in Redondo Beach. A must go to place.

Food was ok, but over priced. Cost over $20 for two to eat, and one of us only got a sandwich. AND that's without drinks. The cole slaw was yummy, the fried okra was ok. The "Texas style" (meaning chopped) brisket sandwich was good, but THANK GOODNESS they gave me a side of sauce otherwise it would have been too dry. As someone who has eaten plenty of barbeque, BBQ, bar-b-que, etc in the southern portion of the U.S., the south bay is severely lacking in the BBQ market. #1 it should be cheap #2 it shouldn't be snobby #3 it shouldn't be a chain stretching across the nation #4 the smoker should be the most expensive part of starting the restaurant #5 either picnic tables or sawdust should be somehow incorporated into the restaurant... my made up reasons #1-5 = why I should never open a restaurant lol

I should've read the reviews before wasting my time and money. There was no one else in the restaurant when I went in yet the employees were super unhelpful and I got the feeling they would rather be anywhere else but there. I attempted to order the brisket. They told me they were all out. Ok so I asked about the polish sausage... is it spicy? The answer I received was "its like kilbasa" (I know I speller that wrong!). Ok so that didn't answer my question but whatever. I ordered a sandwich with a side of Mac n cheese. When I got home, I realized there was no bbq sauce and the roll was smothered with butter. Gross. Was I supposed to ask for bbq? How come it doesn't come with it? My sandwich was gross... bland and I couldn't deal with the butter. I won't be back.

This place is terrible. Food actually tastes ok but WAY to expensive for what you get. $8 for a pulled pork sandwhich that comes on a small hamburger bun (I MEAN SMALL). That $8 does not include a side and a drink. $45 meal for 2 people. Also this place has no ventilation system so you walk out smelling lovely.... (insert sarcasm here).

***When your hair is more important than your customers, something is seriously wrong.*** Some dude came by the office with a bunch of menus promoting Dickey's and how they will start delivering on Friday 1/20/12. A couple of the boys and I decided to order. I called in to make sure there were no restrictions or minimum order requirements and was told there were none. I got all of the office orders and decided to call in the order. Rosey answered the phone and told me to hold on. Instead of placing me on hold, she hung up on me. Slightly aannoyed, I called back and explained to Rosey I was hung up on, "Oh, that's okay, what can I do for you?" o_O I placed my order and Rosey seemed as though she had no clue what was going on. She tried ending the call abrubptly before telling me a total or asking if I would be paying via C or $$. I reminded Rosey and she said this was her first time taking an order for delivery, but would have the food to us in 20 minutes with her boss, who would then take my CC info. As odd as it sounded, I went along eagerly anticipating my BBQ. 15 minutes later, Rosey called to say her boss informed her that delivery orders are for over $150 and despite having told me that they would deliver, her boss would not be coming to their restaurant to pick up the food and deliver it here since it was raining and did not want to ruin her hair since she had recently had it done. Are you serious? Wow...it amazes me what passes of as customer serice these days.

I cannot say enough great things about this location, especially Alex! I was trying to get a gift card for my father for Father's Day and couldn't find one online. I called this location and spoke to Alex, who took it upon himself to call corporate to help me get this gift card. He called me back the same day and helped me order one from his store over the phone, which he mailed to me. Needless to say, Alex went above and beyond, and I will always be a loyal customer to this location because of the memorable customer service I received. And as an added bonus, now my dad will get the gift card in time for Father's Day. Thanks so much Alex and the rest of the staff at Dickey's- I really appreciate the awesome customer service and going the extra mile.

A disappointing bbq joint. My boss picked up dinner from Dickey's yesterday - the XL Family Pack: 3 meats (about 1 lb. each): Pulled pork - dry. Chopped brisket - also dry. Pork ribs - again, dry. Strike 3. 3 sides (about 1 pint each): Fried okra - good, but no okra flavor. It could have been fried anything. Baked potato casserole - the best thing in the order. But it's hard to screw up cheesy potatoes. Creamy coleslaw - Not that creamy and had an off taste. Kind of an Asian pickled flavor. Rolls - very good. Soft and buttery. Pickles - big, free dills. Pretty good. Sauces - Ok, a bit too thick and sweet for me, though. Price - $67. Holy crap. Good thing I wasn't paying - I would have walked out. Note: The meats and sides seemed a bit light. The only side that was filled to the top was the okra and the only meat that seemed like a full pound were the ribs. This meal supposedly serves 6-8 people. 6-8 not very hungry people, that is. I don't know how a bbq restaurant can serve dry meat. This place is new so maybe they have some kinks to work out. If they don't, this place won't last.

I was there today with my family including my 3 year old. There was a total of 5 of us. The guy that helped us ...beyond super friendly The food was great. The pulled pork sandwich was tender and juicy. The brisket was smokey and good. My son LOVED the mac and cheese and I loved the fried okra. Food and service were both top notch! I read the other reviews and everyone mentioned the cost was high.... my response to them would be, have you tried to buy a brisket in the store, its not cheap! The portions were very generous for the cost. If you want to be a charlie cheap-o, stay home and cook your own food, you will have spent more trying to prepare this and you will be left with a ton of dishes. If you want a great BBQ joint I would go to Dickeys... it's pretty Texas in there!!

Curiosity got the best of me this time and know why this place only has 2 stars. Ordered the sliced brisket and cheddar sausage with BBQ beans and fried onions. Brisket was really fatty, did not have much flavor and should of been cut across the grain with a sharp knife. Its was more like shredded beef Sausage was pretty good. Beans reminded me of canned pork & beans. I don't think I'll be back...

Shared the rib plate and three-meat plate and both were good. You can try three different BBQ sauces to spice things up. Onion tanglers and jalapeno beans were good. Made a little sandwich of the dinner roll, brisket, onion tangler and sauce. Yum! Service was quick, staff is nice and friendly. New owner seems to be making a difference. It isn't world class BBQ, but it was very good, satisfying fast BBQ, and a great value. I'll be back.

I thought the place was great and will definitely go back. The person who helped me at the counter was very polite and professional- the restaurant was super clean and all of my choices were great. I had the pulled pork sandwich, and the ribs. Loved the choices in bar-b q- sauce, and the free pickles. I have no complaints- and thought the food was great.

Waaaaaayyyy Overpriced, 9.95 for side of coleslaw (it was 16oz size but it was only filled about 3/4 full). Paid 23 for a small rack of ribs (there were 8 ribs total) The ribs were tender, my husband who is a super taster said there was a chemically taste, might be a flavored smoke or the fact that they were rapped in plastic (by them not me). I would not go back, not worth the price. Not to mention the friendly cashier need assistance in ringing up my order. She had to retrieve a woman from the back who not only was having a bad hair day, she was in a bad mood. She walked over to the register did not speak a word to me or the cashier, pushed some buttons and stormed back to the back. awkward

This place is good authentic Texas fast food barbecue. The meat is a little bit on the dry side but everything is good. If you dine in, kids get free ice cream!

Every once a while we like to have a splurge meal. We love barbQ but this place really is not good. To start they over charged us for our items we did not order....as far as the barbQ pulled chicken sandwich they forgot to add the barbQ sauce (no flavor at all-it actually grossed me out). It had a cheap little smashed hamburger bun and hardly any chicken. We have a place we go to in Manhattan Beach and it does not even compare. We are not big eaters but the portions were tiny and they cost was not comparable to its quality. Would not recommend if you are a barbQ fan!
